I finished dinner, dishes … and was getting ready to head upstairs to bed when I realized I had to balance my bank statements. I’d been putting them off too long and wanted to get them out of the way.
So, I went to the computer to reconcile my quickbooks/quicken accounts with the online statements.
However, I read my emails first … answered a few … and saw one from a friend. She had forwarded an email about a boy who was dying of cancer and wanted Christmas cards before he died.
I went online and checked the validity of the email and it was not spam. There was a new address for the cards, however.
I went back to my friend’s email and forwarded the link for the new address to all of her recipients.
I then went in search of a Christmas card.
There weren’t any in my adjoining closet.
None in the closet downstairs.
None in the office supply storage in the garage.
While I’m in the garage I open the garage door to check on the storm drain. It’s Fall and it’s storming heavily. The leaves wash into the storm drain and clog it. This causes the garage to flood. I’ve racked leaves away 5 times today. I see that it’s clogged again and go out in the rain, at 10 pm to rake leaves.
That done, I’m back to finding the Christmas card for the 5 year old somewhere in Michigan.
Oh yes, I remember Dave and I created a separate box for cards and put it on one of the garage shelves.
But, there’s a large piece of glass in front of the box that we hadn’t moved yet.
So, I began to move it.
But, there were some chairs in the place where the glass should go. So, I moved those.
This almost knocked down a lamp that needed to find a home. I took it into the downstairs room and found a place for it on a table. There were two smaller lamps on this table that I had to relocate. I redecorated the basement (OK, just a the part where the lamps were to go), and went out in search of the card.
First I had to replace the chairs. There was an empty computer monitor box behind the place where the chairs were that needed to go into the attic. I pulled it out. I placed the glass where it needed to go, replaced the chairs, found a Christmas card, brought it and the computer monitor box upstairs, addressed the card and then … began reconciling the bank statements (remember those?).
2 hours later I’m getting ready to go upstairs to bed. And, I will once I finish this email and put the computer monitor box into the attic. Hopefully, there will be nothing in the attic for me to do.
I called my husband Dave to tell him this story. He said his approach would have been, “I’m too tired. I’ll do the card tomorrow. And, the bank statements can wait too.”
Ah, the differences between us.

I want to take a moment to let you know about a recent addition to this blog. You may have noticed a box on the left side of the page labeled “Skribit Suggestions.” Basically it is the old-fashioned idea of a suggestion box, but it has been brought up-to-date with Internet technology.
If you have an idea you’d like to discuss in this blog, or perhaps a question you’d like answered, you can submit it just by entering it through the Skribit box. You can also vote on suggestions made by others.
I began The Awareness Initiative Blog to help you to create a successful and fulfilling life. It is my hope that tools like Skribit offer new ways for you to participate in the blog; so I can better serve your needs and help more people on the road to transforming their lives.

Breaking through barriers usually requires a shift in thinking. I’ve spent my life trying to evolve to a place where money, power and fame were unimportant. I succeeded. I have no desire for money (for money’s sake), fame or power, though I do absolutely create a life of abundance. However, I discovered a loophole in this way of thinking.
In my avoidance of fame and power I kept the extent of my power and my influence small. I have now realized that the resistance to fame and power is counter to my goal and mission in life. What I want – what I thrive on – is assisting others through my coaching, counseling, speaking and teaching, to connect with their truth and transform their lives according to their essential nature. I yearn to reach out to all who would benefit from my guidance. Accomplishing this means getting “bigger” so that I reach more people – not resisting money, fame and power – allowing it without striving for it.
I will grow my business if I focus on doing what I enjoy and accomplishing my goal. Wealth can bring greater capacity to expand. As my power increases I can create more joy and transformation. The word can spread and I can be humble, sane AND BIG.
“Big” may be the result when we’re doing what we love. Allowing the expansion and growth will be the door that sets me free. The expansion also offers more transformation and joy for me, and more to offer others, as well.
Whew. Happy to blow past that one! More articles, blogs, podcasts, coaching, teaching, speaking … More, to come!!

Sometimes in the intensity of powerful creation and focus on the goal at hand we forget to notice everything else that’s happening around us. I’m calling this “everything else” the softer side of life – the hum of life moving beautifully as we forge our way forward.
I was flying to Las Vegas to be filmed on the Momentum stage at the Venetian. The video is a new rendition of my speaking and training capabilities that will be displayed on my website soon. I practiced and polished my speech for a week. I meditated on being effective and creating a powerful presentation. I fretted about scheduling and timing. My entire focus for a week was: PRESENTATION. I’ve thought about the fact that I’d be in Las Vegas for two days staying in a suite at the Venetian. But I did not live in that reality.
While on the plane meditating I intuitively heard, “Enjoy yourself, Deborah. Look around you. Everything else is happening as you focus only on your intent. Life surrounds you, and it’s a beautiful one at the moment. You’re headed for paradise to be with wonderful people and have new experiences. You may do well on your speech, and you may not. Everything happening around you influences where you are headed, not just the individual activities you’re attuned to. Pay attention to where you are and how lovely your life is. Pay attention to all that’s happening around you and enjoy it. Your attunement to this is the manna that will make your presentation sing. Feel the fullness of the experience. Life is living and breathing around you. Tap into this and enjoy. That joy will radiate out and you’ll connect with your audience, no matter what you say.”
Good advice, and it worked fabulously. Suddenly I was relaxed and excited – enthusiastic and smiling. The planed arrived 35 minutes early (!) and I got a cab immediately, giving me more time to check-in, dress and practice a little more. The video experience with Blue Marble Media was incredibly fun, professional and exciting. I met wonderful people, had fun at Manhattan Momentum, and am now writing from my luxury suite after eating the delicious breakfast brought to my room.
I reiterate to you and to myself. Anything is possible and remarkable if done one step at a time. We can do anything we dream and have fun doing it. Life is supporting us – holding us softly in its embrace.
