Here are some tips to help you:
1. Please be kind to you. Realize that the situation is challenging. Emotional reverb is expected. Your emotions, like a sad child, will have a lot to say. Honor your feelings by noticing them and breathing through them. Let yourself calm yourself with your love and breath.
2. Download the limiting belief worksheet and the belief busting sheet from the bottom right side of my homepage (www.theawarenessinitiative.com). This will help you to pinpoint the beliefs that are supporting your pain. It will also help you to support that emotional child that is hurting right now.
3. Love the child and support her, but don’t honor the thoughts that are generated. Thoughts about what happened, what you did wrong, what will happen, what someone else did wrong, whether you’ll be able to handle this, how you SHOULD be …. are very unproductive.
The only way to deal with these thoughts is to stop thinking them. Don’t follow the train of thought. You have built a neuropath in your brain that you follow and you become it. Don’t follow it. Don’t become your thought. Drop the thought completely and return to your center. If you can’t do this meditate more often so that you learn how to not get caught up in the mind.
Meanwhile, there are other tricks: Think of something more productive. Think of anything else – things that aren’t relevant to the situation. Think about things you need to do or things you enjoy. Look around you and notice trees or flowers… or a Prada handbag, if that’s your thing. Look up at the sky. Think about your garden. Like a child, distract your mind from its obsessive, painful pattern.
There is nothing to be gained by thinking about painful issues. You can’t fix your pain this way. It’s a mind myth.
Honor the tremendous opportunity to build up your mind control muscles, and return to emotional support of yourself. Love you. And know, this too shall pass and you’ll be happier and stronger than you’ve ever been.

A difference between successful and non-successful people is often: Non-successful people work to be as good as others, and to be accepted and appreciated. Successful people most often work to improve and grow, to be the best they can be.
At another level, the difference between successful people and fulfilled people is whether they measure success by where they stand against others, or whether they strive to best themselves – viewing others with respect and appreciation as fellow players.
In other words, unsuccessful people see themselves as below the water, trying to get to the surface. Successful people see themselves as swimmers, working to swim farther. Fulfilled people feel a part of the river, enjoying the opportunity to become better swimmers and enjoying the opportunities.

Chuck DesJardins, Ph.D., http://www.linkedin.com/in/drdesjardins, asked the following thought provoking question on LinkedIn:
“When you think of self-actualization, do you think of it as a person reaching their goals, or do you see it as a more deep soulish experience? Soulish, in the sense that the person who is self-actualizing is experiencing not only behavioral changes, but psychological and philosophical changes.”
FYI, here’s my answer:
If we are in touch with and being our essential self, we will proceed appropriately on our path. It may be rocky and challenging, but that doesn’t mean we’re not actualizing. It means we’re growing. Self actualization is a journey without end. The key to knowing if we’re on our path and moving in the right direction is trusting in our own knowing, gut, intuition and truth.

Happy Summer Solstice. My friend and great astrologer Lorelei Robbins says (http://loreleilive.com/):
“The Summer Solstice is a powerful time to leave the old behind and create the new. Ask yourself what emotions, patterns, and behaviors no longer serve you. And what do you desire to have in your life now? This is the time to remember:
ASK AND YOU SHALL RECEIVE
SEEK AND YOU SHALL FIND
KNOCK AND IT SHALL BE OPENED TO YOU.”
What are you creating today? What are you letting go of? This is a powerful time of the year to make a list. Meditate, contemplate, journal and spend the next few days evaluating what works and what doesn’t. Then take action and do what you love doing, working towards your goals one step at a time.

I loved the “6 steps to taking a big step” article in the June, 2010 O Magazine and want to share a quote that I think is very relevant to anyone making a change or moving in a new direction:
“Find comfort in discomfort. ’Remember, it’s supposed to hurt; you’re supposed to feel sore.’ says Debbie Ford. She’s not talking about just the physical aches and pains of the couch potato turned triathlon competitor, but also the mental and emotional uneasiness of the would-be CEO or aspiring artist. ‘Accept that you’ll never get rid of self-doubt.’ Todd Kashdan says. ‘An adventurous person will always have moments of feeling like a fraud – it’s a sign that you’re creating new roles for yourself, that you’re evolving. It means you’re doing great, passionate work.” – Jessica Winter

Call it what you will, asking for what you need at a deep and profound level not only connects you to Source, it connects Source to self. You are also setting your intention or desire, making it not only clear to the energy around you, but clarifying it to yourself. Remember to “put it out there” instead of fretting. You will then “imbed it inside” at the same time, allowing you to take your dreams to heart.

A few years ago I told my dad that I was trying to retire within 5 years. He said, “What will you do then?” Good question. What would I do? Would I read more? Watch more movies? Get more exercise? Travel? I realized that I’m doing as much of that as I’d like to now. I’ve been pondering this dilemma ever since. Would I be bored if I retired? If so, was I bound to working for the rest of my life?
I had an “ah ha” realization in Sedona a few weeks ago. I’d had enough work. It was time to release myself from my present obligations and stop working. I retired immediately. I was no longer obligated to do anything. I could now do whatever I wanted to. I was done and complete. If boredom was my plight, I’d face it. I was done. What a release and a relief.
So how has retirement changed my life? Not much. Now that I’m retired, I can do what I want. So, I do intuitive coaching. In fact, I’m doing more of it than before. I’m busy helping to restructure the behavior, communication and workflow of an international company. At the same time I’m acting as the interim CFO of my husband’s company (Bassett Printing). I realized that I LIKE doing all of this.
I’m exercising more than I did before I retired. Because of this I’m able to run again, while still working out with weights and doing yoga. I’m spending a lot of time with friends and with my husband. I’ve read several books in the past few weeks. Most of them novels.
I know it sounds like I’m very busy, and it’s true. I am. I’m at least as busy as I was before I retired. But, I’m having A LOT more fun. Why? Because I know I don’t have to do any of it. I’m retired. The retirement mindset is setting the stage for bliss. Just thinking about being retired makes me smile. I’m more relaxed knowing that I can do anything I want.
I’ve read quotes from many of our famous entrepreneurs that say we must do what we love in order to be successful. I can now tell you from a new perspective that this is absolutely true. When we let go of our obligations and self expectations, our fears and limiting beliefs, we can do what we do best. Few of us are actually couch potatoes. Most of us like to DO stuff. I love to do exactly what I’m doing now: Writing to you.
What do you love to do? You may consider retirement – from your beliefs, obligations and expectations. I’d love to hear about how you prosper once you do.

Listened do an “oldey” the other day and realized that The Pet Shop Boys gave perfect advice on how to judge if something is working for you or not: “Oh, I missed it. The more that it hurts, the less that it works.”
Somewhere in time I was taught that pain means gain. After years of dealing with pain I have to say, and years of gain, this is dead wrong. I don’t agree that we have to experience pain to have gain. My gain was not proportional to my pain. I’m giving up this limiting belief and embracing a new belief: Joy leads to more joy. Success is born from doing what feels good, not what hurts.
I’m not saying that life isn’t full of challenges. They happen. I can and will learn the lessons and move on. But, I don’t have to buy into the pain and do what hurts in order to get to where I want to go. Instead, I prefer to do what feels right and good right now.
I am now creating a fulfilling and successful life one breath at a time. Starting now.
