Congratulations. You Made A Mistake

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

I was working out with my trainer, Joseph, the other day and he had me doing a particularly difficult exercise. I was holding a weight in my right hand and balancing on my left leg. I then bent down and touched the weight in front of my left leg, while keeping the right leg up. At the same time I was balancing a plate in my mouth. . . OK. I lied about the plate.

To make this more difficult, I was standing on a foam pad, so my left foot was not on solid ground. The first time I tried this I fell over. It took several tries before I was able to balance and bend over without dropping my right leg or grabbing onto Joseph’s arm. I was then able to accomplish it, but my left foot and ankle constantly shifted and wobbled to maintain the balance. It didn’t look pretty. But, I did it. My leg and body learned how to accomplish the move and my body newly strengthened muscles in my foot, ankle and knee to stabilize it. I was pushing my limits and was growing.

If we were able to do everything at first try, there would be nothing new in life. A growth filled life is laden with errors. If we don’t ere, we are staying within the safety net of our previous experience. Nothing new happens. We stay the same.

When we push our limits we sometimes fall, we wobble and eventually we learn. We are then stronger, wiser and in a sense bigger than before. Edison invented the light bulb on his ten thousandth try. That’s 9,999 mistakes. If we’re not making mistakes, we’re missing opportunities to grow and expand.

Mistakes are laurels on our way to mastery of the new. Honor and applaud them.

“When have you done work that matters without having perfect acceptance?”

Thursday, February 4th, 2010

Vanessa Lowery asked this insightful question in LinkedIn. Have you done work or other deeds because you felt it was the right thing to do, even if others didn’t appreciate or approve of it? What was the result? Check out her blog post for other people’s stories (http://vanessalowry.wordpress.com/2010/01/31/addicted-to-approval/). Here’s mine:

Everyday I experience opportunities to do work that matters whether or not I’m approved of. As an intuitive coach I give information based upon what I see clairvoyantly and then coach people to break through barriers and take their next steps. If I were to worry about what people think I may be swayed from saying what I See – from telling the truth. I have to trust my insights. Sometimes people don’t recognize what I’m saying as truth. I have to stand behind what I See.

One client said, “80% of what you say I see as true for me immediately. I see that the other 20% is true in 2-4 months.” It takes guts and self belief to tell the truth about what you see and do what you feel is right, even if it’s not accepted. If you’re lucky it can change people’s lives. If not, it’s just water under the bridge.

What other people think of me is none of my business. When I stopped worrying about it I suddenly attracted hundreds of new clients and friends and I’m having a greater impact on life.

Secret tips on finding joy

Thursday, January 21st, 2010

Suzie Price is asking people on Linkedin what brings them joy (http://www.pricelessprofessional.com/how-to-find-happiness.html).

Here’s my answer:

1.) Know who you are. In order to be happy you have to know what makes you happy.

To do that you have to increase your awareness of who you are and BE that.

2.) Do what you love and don’t settle for less, no matter what.

There are no excuses here. If you act out of obligation, fear, worry or through your limiting beliefs of what you SHOULD do you won’t be happy. If you do what you love you’ll find joy, and you’ll light up the world and those around you at the same time.

See yesterday’s blog: “Enlightening Pelican Lessons.”

Social Media as Giving: Gratitude Challenge Day 12

Thursday, December 10th, 2009

This morning I awoke after a rough night of little sleep to a reply from Mary McManus (http://bit.ly/5dKE0c) to my Gratitude Challenge. What a wonderful reply it was. It inspired and grounded me in my day.

Here’s how it worked from the beginning. Mary heard me on the Darian and Darius Blogtalk radio show. Being the tremendous social networker that she is, she connected with me on Twitter and Facebook. She tweets me often, sends love and support, and I reply in kind.

The more I share my knowledge and participate in social media, the more relationships I develop with people like Mary. I’ve made friends, learned a great deal, developed business and have helped others by sending info to others about them. It just keeps growing and going. Social media done correctly is a perfect example of a win-win giving situation.

Day 2 & 3 of Gratitude Challenge

Friday, November 27th, 2009

2 days ago I began the Gratitude Challenge and promised to post my lessons in giving. (see below). Here are a couple examples from my day. I’m excited to read comments from you about yours.

Yesterday I was invited to a friend’s home to share Thanksgiving with her wonderful family. I was asked to bring the appetizer.

Normally I pull something prepared out of the freezer, but today I was inspired. I had a smoked salmon and it seemed the perfect appetizer. But, I needed to make it special. I spent two hours cutting cucumbers and tomatoes, decorating them with dill and surrounding the salmon on a beautiful fish plate. I then took some whipped cream cheese and whipped it some more with fresh dill. I put the cream cheese in a plastic baggie (really going over the top now), cut an end off and decorated the salmon like a cake with the cream cheese.

During this entire process I paid attention to how I felt. I was having fun. I really got into this.

And, so did they. They family loved the salmon. It was a huge hit. It was an act of giving the enlightened my day and their tummies.

Example Day 3:

Last night after returning home I got hit by a flu bug. It leveled me. Fever, chills… everything. I had two phone coaching sessions scheduled for today. My husband suggested I cancel them. I felt in my heart that I needed to do these sessions. And, I did.

I was swept away in the world of coaching, learning and communicating. The sessions did wonders for me and for them. A 100% win-win situation. Ah, I love my work!

Please share your giving experience by clicking on the title of this blog. There will be a box at the end of the blog where you can type in a comment. I’d love to hear about your experience. Or, you can email me at debhill@theawarenessinitiative.com.

Acting Instead of Reacting

Wednesday, November 4th, 2009

It was a remarkable experience that only took five minutes. Someone who often becomes angry with me began yelling at me. In the past I would have been hurt by what she said. I may have become angry myself and have often yelled back at her. Or, I’d try to appease her so that she would stop yelling. It never worked. Sometimes I’d be hurt for days or weeks by the interaction. Sometimes brought to tears.

This time it was different. I acknowledged my understanding that how she acts has nothing to do with me. It has everything to do with her. I didn’t believe what she said, or even listen entirely.

For the first time I didn’t engage. It felt like I took a step back and watched her acting out and yelling. It was like watching a movie of a person going ballistic. Eventually she walked away and comforted herself in the corner of the room. I watched objectively, and for the first time felt HER pain. I saw that she was hurting deeply – that she was struggling with demons that had plagued her for some time. I felt for her.

Something I had said had hurt her, and though I had nothing to do with her hurting it was sad. Compassion welled up within me. I wished it could be different and that I was a person who brought her joy and healing. I wondered how many there were who could do that.

There was nothing I could do at the time. Nothing I could say, and it wasn’t my fault. In the future, however, I’ll know how fragile she is. I’ll try to speak with that understanding of her. Not because I want to change her or fix her. Now it’s because I care for and love her. Hopefully the understanding and compassion that I gained – because I knew it was not about me – will help our future communication. I know it has helped me to better understand my self and others.

In my November newsletter I talk more about why I’m working to be more objective. Look for the article next week, entitled, “Sorry, You’re Just Not Worth It.”

Unlimiting Your Life

Thursday, October 15th, 2009

Below is the basic information that is discussed on the first episode of the “Unlimited Success and Fulfillment” radio show on October 16 at 1 PM EST. I will also be coaching people live on the show. Tune in tomorrow, or the 1st and 3rd Fridays of each month at http://www.divatoolbox.com/diva-toolbox-radio-/hosts/1904-deborah-hill-unlimited-success-and-fulfillment.html, just call in at (724) 444-7444, code 6400#. All episodes will be based upon this information.

Do you think of yourself as a unique powerhouse of dynamic energy, capable of creating a perfect life for yourself? You really are such a person. Creating a wonderful life for yourself is your birthright, and you wouldn’t be here if you weren’t right for the job. You have a wealth of abilities and talents that can catapult you into productive action. You’re an amazing, talented individual – able to build, create, expand, enjoy, triumph, fly. But you may not have the life you’d hoped for.

Walt Disney once said, “If you can dream it, you can do it.” If that’s true, why aren’t you the master of your universe, leaping tall obstacles in a single bound? How did this dynamic powerhouse that we call “you” get hung up in pursuit of your dreams? It could be that you are simply standing in your own way. YOU may be your biggest obstacle. How? Your beliefs may be blocking you from being and doing all you can.

Einstein revealed to us that everything is energy moving at different rates, including human bodies. Matter is merely energy moving slow enough to be detected by the five human senses: Seeing, hearing, tasting, feeling, and smelling. Our thoughts are energetic signals that pulsate through our brains, sending waves of energy through and around us. Our beliefs are repetitive, energetic thought patterns. Think of them as programmed vibrations within the brain. These belief “thought patterns” significantly influence our lives.

What we think and what we believe is reflected in the energy inside and surrounding us. Our thought and belief energy is projected from us like a radio tower projects radio waves. These energetic projections tell the universe and the people in it what’s happening in our world. All of the other radio towers around us pick up this signal that we are broadcasting, and they respond accordingly. Everything around us will respond in-kind to this thought and belief frequency. If we believe we’re a failure, we broadcast this to the world and the world responds in kind. Likewise, if we believe we are well respected and successful we project it and it’s mirrored back to us. Others tune in to our frequency and respond to it in much the same way they respond to what we physically say and do.

What we think and believe helps to steer us through life and is mirrored back at us. You can use your thoughts to make what you want in your life happen for you. Here are five steps that you take to do it:

1. Really want something

2. Define it clearly

3. Clear your resistance to having it

4. Ask for it.

5. Visualize having it

6. Have faith. Know it’s coming. Don’t nag.

The above steps work, but limiting thoughts and beliefs may not support your wants and needs.

Your thinking and your beliefs create a vibration that may not support your wants and needs. In order to create what you want, your beliefs must support your needs, dreams and desires. What do you believe? It’s important to pay attention to this if you want to create your perfect life.

There are several indications that you can help you pinpoint when this is happening. The first and foremost indicator is that you aren’t getting what you want after going though the above steps. Here are some more limiting belief indicators (Go to www.theawarenessinitiative.com home page for a free download that elaborates on these and how to change limiting beliefs).

1. Repetitive Patterns

2. Negative Emotions

3. Unproductive thoughts

4. Continual comments from others

We each have our own unique hang-ups or beliefs that we can change. We also share a number of common limiting beliefs. Limiting beliefs may be keeping you from creating the life you desire. You can change them. Armed with this new awareness and technique, you’ll soon be able to replace your limiting beliefs with your own powerful truths.

The journey of life

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

Yesterday was Yom Kippur – a day when Jews around the world atone for their sins and seek to deeply connect with God. One of the passages in my prayer book is very meaningful to me. It speaks about the journey of life and how we move through it learning our lessons and growing.  I think its wisdom is a direct hit, revealing what life is about. I’d like to share it with you:

Birth is a beginning
And death a destination.
And life is a journey:
From childhood to maturity
And youth to age;
From innocence to awareness
And ignorance to knowing;
From foolishness to discretion
And then, perhaps, to wisdom;
From weakness to strength
Or strength to weakness –
And, often, back again;
From health to sickness
And back, we pray, to health again;
From offense to forgiveness,
From loneliness to love,
From joy to gratitude,
From pain to compassion,
And grief to understanding –
From fear to faith;
From defeat to defeat to defeat –
Until, looking backward or ahead,
We see that victory lies
Not at some high place along the way,
But in having made the journey, stage by stage,
A sacred pilgrimage.
Birth is a beginning
And death a destination.
And life is a journey,
A sacred pilgrimage –
To life everlasting.

This is a time of great change on many levels. People are realizing that the old systems don’t work, and the present values are shallow. I’m coaching more and more people who are in transition, looking to find where their hearts lie and what they truly value. I feel that what we’re experiencing is a period time that potentiates a huge spiritual shift on this “sacred pilgrimage.” I’m praying for it. I’m looking for a time when people connect with their essential self and with that of others.

May journey year be joyful this year.

The Pause That Fuels Success

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009

Many of us tend to view stress as emotional or mental, not realizing how much the body takes on when we go through intense periods of work, relationship issues, learning or other stressful times. We expect to be physically tired after running a marathon, but may not realize how much tension our body has absorbed after a mentally or emotionally stressful period in our lives.

We’ve been taught that when we move slowly, or are inactive we’re weak, feeble or listless. Yet, every thing and every other living being idles. My car can’t run constantly. It needs to park or to idle. My dog sleeps by my side for hours while I work. After eating a lion may rest for a week. Even hummingbirds come to an almost dead stop to rest between flights. Every other animal understands that without proper rest we wear down and don’t perform properly. Performance is balanced with refueling and rest. But, many of us humans believe in pushing. Only humans move full speed all of the time, and our performance and joy suffer the consequences.

My physical therapist said: “You don’t need to push to fatigue.” I get the concept.

I’m taking out a new lease on life. I’m adding more value into my contract by releasing the pressure valve – learning to live with ease. Ah, I feel the pressure clouds lifting already and, yes, I’m smiling.

Powerful Guidance for Success

Thursday, September 3rd, 2009

Where does real knowledge come from? A great deal of information and insight comes to us without the use of the rational mind. This information comes to us from a place of awareness not connected to rational thought.

Many of the greatest discoveries – those that have changed history and lives – have come from this place. These discoveries and insights were borne from moments of wisdom or understanding that did not come from the rational mind. Sir Isaac Newton found gravity by being awakened by an apple. In a place between the dream and awakened states he had an epiphany and then used his mind to describe it. Albert Einstein had great visions during his naps. He often stated that one of his biggest challenges was putting into words and formulas that which he knew from a place other than his rational mind.

What insights do you receive? Do you notice information coming from other sources beyond the rational mind? Do you honor this information?

Here are some steps to use to notice and validate this information:
1. Watch your thoughts. Pay attention to these “voices” in your head. Where are they coming from? Not all thoughts come from the same place.
2. Write down your instinctual thoughts and insights – the “gut level” feelings you can’t rationally explain it.
3. Watch to see if the information proves to be accurate. How does the situation play out?
4. Write down the outcome.
Next time, add in another step between 2 and 3: Act upon the insight. Do what “your gut” tells you to do and act on it as if it’s true information.

Your success will increase dramatically when you honor your non-explainable intuitive insights.
